Church Law and the Future of Jai Bhim Network in Hungary

It’s almost been two years to my visit (23rd Sept to 20th Oct 2009) to the Sajókaza (Hungary) and since then I’ve been in constant contact with my friends – Anikó Szegedi, Derdák Tibor, Kalanyos Laszlo and Katlin Bodori – from Hungary. This article is in continuation to my previous articles – Babasaheb Ambedkar and ‘the Dalits of Europe’, Reclaiming Human Dignity: The Protest and Gypsy Stereotypes, Celebrating Dhamma Chakka Parivartan Diwas in Hungary, and Ambedkar in Hungary – which I wrote while staying at Sajókaza.

Few Updates from the Jai Bhim Network, Hungary

Since 2009, Jai Bhim Network has expanded its roots deep into the Hungarian society via opening new schools at Alsózsolca (about 60 students), Mágocs and Sáta (elementary school about 20km from Sajókaza) and Jai Bhim Network has purchased a new house (named White House) to teach Roma students and carry out various social functions. With the help of Bharat Wankhede (the guy who accompanied me on the visit) and The Corporate Body of the Buddha Education Foundation, Taipei (Taiwan) Jai Bhim Network has published a Buddhist Puja book – Telihold. Kubu (the guy I mentioned few times in my earlier articles) will graduate in Physics in few years. Benu (the guy whose speech on Roma rights at Heroes Square (Budapest) was simply amazing.) has joined job at Budapest and he is continuing his activities with Jai Bhim Network from Budapest. Katlin Bodori left for completing her master’s degree. Many new teachers are hired and few completed their tenure successfully – enriching Roma students’ lives and their own lives with wonderful experiences.

As I wrote here about the Sakya Hostel students few friends came forward not only with money but also with words of encouragement. We are no doubt indebted to their un-conditional support and in this post we will like to thank those friends who came forward despite their busy schedule and busy life.

Here in this post, I would like to share with you few posters created by my friend Ravi, who blogs at Veera Works.

In these posters, we have tried to appeal everyone to come forward and help Sakya Hostel to run smoothly for the betterment of students. I would like to request everyone to share these posters with your friend and help Sakya students in whatever manner one can.

Six SP MLAs defect to BSP to ‘serve people’

LUCKNOW: After receiving several setback when its three MLAs defected to SP, the ruling BSP has struck back at its arch rival, the SP. While on Thursday Sandhya Katheriaya, a sitting SP MLA from Kishna assembly constituency in SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s home ground Mainpuri, joined BSP, on Friday five sitting SP MLAs defected to BSP.

The five SP MLAs who have defected to the ruling BSP are Sarvesh SIngh MLA from Sagr constituency in Azamgarh, Sultan Beg MLA from Kawar constituency in Bareilly, Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel from Hamirpur, Sandeep Agarwal from Moradabad, Sundar Lal Lodhi from Hadha constituency in Unnao and Suraj Singh Shakya from Kanshiram Nagar.

The move is being seen as BSP reply to SP. While MLAs are defecting after being denied ticket by their parties for the assembly elections due next year in April-May, by engineering defections, the political parties are trying to give impression that the poll mood is in their favour.

Significantly, three BSP MLAs and several other leaders have defected to SP since May this year. Those who have joined SP include BSP MLA from Mallawa in Hardoi, Satish Verma, BSP MLA from Masauli in Barabanki district, Farid Mefhooz Kidwai and BSP MLA from Jalalpur, Ambedkarnagar, Sher Bahadur Singh.

All the turncoats enjoyed their term as MLA for four-and-a-half years and now after being denied election tickets, they all suddenly realised that their parent party is ‘suffocating’. They all said that they have defected to ‘serve the people’.

Support Sakya Hostel Students

Did you know that Tsunami affected orphan Dalit children are still facing problems in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (India) even after 6-7 years? We all know in the relief process at the time tsunami hit India, Dalits were sidelined by Governments and many other orthodox relief organizations.

During this time organization named “Visuddhaloka” came forward to help the helpless children – most of them Dalits and put forward the proposal of free education to the tsunami affected children in-front of donor organizations.  In 2005, Karuna Trust, UK came forward to support the children through Trilokya Boudha Maha Sahayak Sangh (TBMSG), Nagpur and since then Karuna Trust was the major contributor for the activities of Sakya Hostel.

Sakya Hostel students

Check out posters created by my friend, Ravi, and share with your friends from this following link:     https://drambedkarbooks.wordpress.com/2011/08/08/support-sakya-hostel-students-2/

At present there are 21 boys and 28 girls supported by Visuddhaloka. Children go to nearby Government schools and in the last few years some of the children after completing the schooling have joined engineering colleges/technical institutes such as three girl students have completed nursing course and joined good hospitals in Chennai, one student is doing Mechanical Engineering, two students joined diploma course in Fire & Safety and two other students joined diploma course in Petrochemical Engineering. Almost every student is doing well in their respective fields.

Since 2005, apart from education, Visuddhaloka is providing all these children with health care facilities, organizing meditation camps for students so that they can overcome traumas these students have undergone after losing their loved ones.

Sakya hostels were well supported in the beginning, as often seen in disaster situation of tsunami; many organizations come forward to provide humanitarian relief. But most of this relief was short term and lacked long term rehabilitation supports. The main remaining supporter (Karuna Trust) of Sakya hostel is also about to withdraw support as per the policy (to help start such ventures and to support them for a few years, but they then expect such ventures to find other, local, means of sustaining.)

Sakya Hostel students

Ignored by Governments, Sakya hostel students need your helping hand to achieve their dreams.

Today, Sakya hostel is facing critical situation and without external support it is a great burden on the organization to continue the hostel. The cost per child for one month is Rs. 1650/-. This amount supplies these students with food, clothing, study materials, stationeries, medicine and other essential items.

Please give wings to the dreams of Sakya hostel students, come forward and help.  Sakya Hostel students not only need money as a help, but also need an encouragement, an encouragement so that they can follow the path of struggle.

If you can’t help with money, please give encouragement. Just drop an email (at visuddhaloka@gmail.com), contact or give a phone call at following address:
